For our family, Valentines Day is more about having a fun day with lots of treats and crafts than it as about LOVE.

I have fun buying silly gifts and heart shaped chocolate and making a dinner inspired by flowers, hearts, and anything else lovey dovey.

My favorite dessert to make is also super simple, which gives it extra points in my book!

Holiday baking is a super fun activity in our home. We bake all sorts of goodies for our friends and neighbors, co-workers and family, in lieu of more traditional gifts and so take great pride in making sure they are receiving only the best baked goods.

Some of my favorites are soft baked ginger cookies, fluffy sugar cookies, and banana bread with gobs cream cheese frosting.

DIY Sh*tty Caramel Apples

I love creating family traditions. My greatest hope is that my children cherish them as much as I do and that the memories they make are lasting and maybe even repeated with their own family someday. Not all traditions are easily forged, however. Some of them take a little practice….or years of practice.

A few years ago I decided I wanted to make caramel apples every year for Halloween. You know those amazing concoctions you see in candy and chocolate shops? The ones covered in tons of gooey caramel and drizzled in white and dark chocolate before being dipped in even MORE candy!? Yeah those. I didn’t want to take the easy way out  by buying caramel. NOPE. I wanted to be Suzie Homemaker and start from scratch.  Needless to say, this post was born of my “success”…
